11/17/2017
HARRISBURG – Rep. Dave Reed (R-Indiana) and Sen. Don White (R-41) today announced almost $91,000 in Safe Schools Grants have been awarded to four Indiana County school districts by the Pennsylvania Department of Education.

“The safety of our children in the classroom setting is paramount and no parent should have to worry when they send them off to school in the morning,” Reed said. “This funding will help to ensure that schools are providing a safe and secure learning environment for students, as well as the faculty and staff.”

Indiana County school districts receiving funding include:
  • Indiana Area – Safe Schools Equipment Grant – $5,000

  • Marion Center Area – Safe Schools School Police/Resource Officer Grant – $40,000

  • Penns Manor – Safe Schools Equipment Grant – $18,926

  • United – Safe Schools School Police/Resource Officer Grant – $26,841

“The grant program is structured to give schools the freedom to choose the safety programs and equipment that best suits their security needs,” said White. “Our children are our greatest resource and we must make certain they are given the opportunity to learn in buildings free of fear and violence.”

Safe Schools School Police/Resource Officer Grants allow for the training and compensation of school resource officers and school police officers. This funding lasts for a two-year term.

Safe Schools Equipment Grants assist schools in reducing unnecessary student disciplinary actions and promote a climate of greater productivity, safety and learning. In addition, the funding assists schools in procuring the resources and training necessary to create a physical environment that fosters the safety and well-being of students and staff.
