State Funding Awarded to Improve S&T Bank Arena, Say Reed, White
HARRISBURG – State funding in the amount of $399,000 today was awarded to White Township for improvements to S&T Bank Arena, according to Rep. Dave Reed (R-Indiana) and Sen. Don White (R-41).

The legislators played key roles in securing the grant through the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources’ (DCNR) Keystone Fund, which supports community improvement projects across the Commonwealth.

“The arena is more than 20 years old and showing its age,” said Reed. “The township plans to use the funding to make the necessary improvements to this valuable community asset and keep it in operation for many years to come. I want to thank the Wolf administration for recognizing the important role the arena plays in our area and awarding this funding.”

The project will include the updating and/or restoring of the arena’s aging structural and mechanical systems, increasing ADA accessibility, implementing green energy initiatives and other improvements.

“This is a great investment by the state in a tremendous community resource,” White said. “This grant will support improvements that will enhance the facility as it continues to host numerous civic events and provide a variety of recreational and fitness activities on a year-round basis.”

“White Township is very delighted to have received this grant award and would like to thank all who contributed to the process,” said White Township Recreation Director Ryan Shaffer. “Since taking over ownership in 2006, we have made several improvements to the S&T Bank Arena. This funding will help us in modernizing the building and continue operations many years into the future.”

The 1,000-seat arena along East Pike Road includes an ice rink, Astro Turf, tennis courts, fitness area and meeting rooms. It hosts local sporting events as well as offers community-based programs and services.
