Impact Fee Generates $860,000 for Indiana County Communities
10/15/2012
HARRISBURG – Rep. Dave Reed (R-Indiana) today joined the governor and other members of the General Assembly to announce the revenues generated by the new impact fee on the Marcellus Shale industry. Establishing the impact fee and strengthening environmental protections, Act 13 has generated more than $204.2 million for communities across the Commonwealth to date.

“The impact fee has brought in $20 million more than what was originally estimated and communities will be receiving this relief soon,” said Reed. “These dollars will give local communities the ability to address local impacts of Marcellus Shale drilling and the flexibility to use them toward items ranging from repairing bridges, increasing social services, protecting water supplies and other necessities.”

Indiana County alone will see more than $357,000 in addition to the combined total of townships and boroughs around the county of more than $502,000. Townships receiving the highest amount in impact fee revenue are Center, Cherryhill, Green, White and Young.

Act 13 is expected to generate approximately $4 billion during the first 10 years for local communities impacted by drilling and $1 billion going toward environmental programs.
